What is an MCP (Model Context Protocol)?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an AI like Claude connect to an external tool and call specific functions, in this case the ones built into the Hack The SEO plugin. In practice: you ask a question in plain English, Claude picks the right MCP capability, calls it on your WordPress, and answers with the result.

Can the AI break my site?

No: the MCP is read-only by default. Every capability can be turned on or off individually from the settings, and every call is tracked in a full log. Nothing gets changed or published without your confirmation.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The connection happens in 1 click: copy the endpoint from Settings → MCP, paste it into Claude → Settings → Connectors, confirm. No command line, no config file to write by hand.

Where does my data go?

Your WordPress site responds directly to YOUR AI client (Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Cowork, or Cursor) through the MCP endpoint you configured. No data resale, no third-party intermediary in the exchange.

How is this different from a GPT or an SEO chatbot?

A generic chatbot answers with average SEO advice that applies to any site. The Hack The SEO MCP calls capabilities connected to YOUR WordPress: the numbers, scores, and pages it cites are your site's, not generalities.

Does it slow down my site?

No. The MCP endpoint is a lightweight REST entry point, called only on demand, when you ask Claude a question. There's no process running continuously on your site.
